ERCOFTAC ETMM11 conference in Palermo, Sicily - September 21-23
Fonte: ERCOFTAC
Such a focus session is intended to highlight a particular field of study that is timely and topical for ETMM11, and for which you believe you could contact a number of colleagues and ask them to submit an abstract for ETMM11 in the general area of the selected theme. That way we can steer attendance and key topics to be discussed at ETMM11.
If you believe you have a good theme for such a focus session then please send me the title of your proposal and the colleagues that you would like to approach and ask to contribute. Typically, a group of 4 or more accepted papers addressing a particular theme should be suitable to constitute such a focus session. In such case the contributed abstracts should mention the link with your proposed focus session.
I hope you will give my request some consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
Details on participation and abstract submission can be found at the website:

We are pleased to invite you to the UMRIDA workshop on Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) and Robust Design Optimization (RDO), to be held at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Brussels, Belgium from 20th of September 2016 to 21st of September 2016.
The focus of the UMRIDA workshop on Robust Design Optimization (RDO) lies on the industrial application of Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) and RDO techniques accounting for a large number of uncertainties. The overall objective is the assessment and application of UQ and RDO methods in industrial design practice.
A series of new, industrially relevant test cases, with prescribed uncertainties, from the UMRIDA database, can be made available for registered participants.
For more information visit the UMRIDA workshop website http://www.umrida.eu/ Registration to the workshop is now open.

Abstracts should be submitted online and should not exceed 350 words (text only).
The deadline for abstract submission is MARCH 30, 2016.
ICAutoC2016 is the first international conference on automotive composites that aims to bring together and to disseminate knowledge between academics/researchers and industry practitioners. It will be a forum for engineers and applied scientists engaged in composite materials within automotive vehicles to contribute to the field and to disseminate technical information.
ICAutoC2016 focuses on advanced composites (FRPs, reinforced thermoplastics, carbon-based composites and many others) and how they are designed, processed and utilized in automotive vehicles. It will include technical sessions on advanced composites in vehicle design/analysis and intends to cover all phases of composites design, analysis, modelling, testing, manufacturing and failure analysis. It is also expected to shed light on the performance of existing composites and future developments in automotive materials technology. The term, 'automotive', includes passenger cars, sport utility vehicles, vans, trucks, buses and recreational vehicles.
The topics covered by the conference include (but are not limited to):
- Technology developments and applications
- Innovative materials, smart composites
- Repair, recycling and promising process technologies
- Morphing and dynamics
- New lightweight composites for safer, energy-efficient and greener vehicles
- Challenges regarding safety and comfort
- Crashworthiness and failure analysis
- Hybrid composites for structural applications
- Polymer, metal, ceramic matrix and graphene-based composites
- Composites manufacturing processes within vehicle components
- Design and modelling methodologies
- Durability of automotive components
- Simulations of composites behaviour; experimental methods
- Thermal problems in composite structures

Graduate course - "Numerical Methods for Diffusion Phenomena in Building Physics: Theory and Practice" (PUCPR)
Fonte: Prof. Luís Mauro Moura (PUCPR)
We are very pleased to announce that the Mechanical engineering Graduate Program at the Pontifical Catholic University of Parana (PUCPR), Brazil, is organizing a graduate course entitled "Numerical Methods for Diffusion Phenomena in Building Physics: Theory and Practice".
This school is in the frame of a binational project CAPES-COFECUB (# 774/13) with the French Universities of Savoy and Lyon. The school is focused on numerical methods as they are involved in most of heat and mass transfer software. The topics will include: finite differences approach applied to transient processes; finite differences approaches applied to local diffusion phenomenon; introductive notions related to Finite Volume approach and its implementation; analytical techniques and semi-analytical methods for solving diffusion-type equations. A special attention will be done to Boundary Integral formulations and the related numerical techniques, involving finite element approach. In addition, spectral approaches (Fourier transform, Orthogonal polynomials projection) and Reduced Order Methods (Proper Orthogonal Decomposition, Proper Generalized Decomposition) will be presented and discussed. After each theoretical morning course, a training session will be supervised for assimilating the concepts introduced, followed by a practical hands-on session for the implementation of the performed algorithms.
As an outcome of this school, it is expected the students have a global knowledge of many numerical approaches and be able to decide which numerical method is relevant with respect to the studied problem. As they will be trained during practical sessions, they will get the scientific programming skills related to multi-dimensional diffusion processes.

PhD positions in the framework of Actions Marie Skłodowska-Curie
Fonte: Prof. Luciano Pessanha Moreira (UFF)
The laboratory LEM3, of Université de Lorraine in Metz France, is member of a Marie Sklodowska Curie ETN / ITN program, named OUTCOME. The consortium composed of 3 academic and 4 industrial partners aims at developing specific training for early-stage researchers within the field of aerospace and defense structures subjected to severe thermo-mechanical loads.
Therefore, 8 phd positions are available within the OUTCOME. Three will be held in Metz, 2 in Israel and 3 in Madrid.
In this project we aim to train early-stage researchers in what is referred to as an outstanding challenge in solid mechanics: developing novel solutions for the analysis and design of aerospace and defense structures subjected to extreme loading conditions. Structural elements used in aerospace and defense industries are frequently subjected to a large variety of unusually severe thermo-mechanical solicitations. One easily realizes that this type of structures (e.g. components for satellites) has to be designed to sustain extreme temperatures, which may vary hundred degrees in short periods of time, and extreme mechanical loadings like hypervelocity impacts. New specific structural solutions are constantly developed to fulfill such requirements, which place these industrial sectors in the fore front of the technological innovation. The leitmotif of this ITN is to train creative and innovative researchers ready to face structural-engineering challenges which arise in the vanguard of technological innovation. OUTCOME is a unique opportunity for 8 motivated early-stage researchers that are willing to set the basis of their scientific career within the field of Solid Mechanics.
